CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Our severe weather team made sure to keep residents informed throughout the day by collecting data from our dual pol radar and sending it out through Facebook.
The response was overwhelming with about 20 comments per post, while posting every five minutes.
Responses included evidence that backed up what our radar in Charlotte said.
It was very cold from the top of the atmosphere almost all the way close to the ground, but a layer of warmth just below that could melt and re-freeze the flakes into sleet.
That caused a big sleet scenario for a lot of areas, especially in Gastonia and in Salisbury.
The air wasn't cold enough for a deep-lasting snow.
