Driver pulled from car after slamming into I-85 bridge in University City area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A serious crash shut down two northbound lanes of Interstate 85 in University City early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near University City Boulevard.

Channel 9 was there as emergency crews worked to cut the driver out of the car.

MEDIC said the driver was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries.

All lanes were reopened by 5 a.m.
