Driver killed, wife hurt during crash with dump truck near Morganton

A man from Morganton was killed in a crash with a dump truck Sunday evening on a Burke County highway.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 6 p.m. Sunday on Highway 64. Troopers were called to the scene near Fisher Davis Road.

According to the highway patrol, 64-year-old Danny Lee Scott was driving a Chrysler 300 when he tried to turn left onto Highway 64 in front of a Ford dump truck.

Troopers said Scott died at the scene. His wife was a passenger in the car and she was taken to a hospital in Morganton with serious injuries.

The driver in the dump truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the highway patrol reported.

According to the highway patrol, investigators don’t believe anyone was impaired or speeding during the crash.

No charges will be filed, troopers said.
