Driver killed when car bursts into flames after crashing off I-77 in York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — One person was killed Tuesday afternoon in a fiery crash along Interstate 77 in York County.

A Channel 9 viewer sent us video taken from the southbound lanes, near the Fort Mill Welcome Center.

A vehicle can be see crashed down an embankment into trees off interstate. Several people could be seen trying to help but the flames were too intense.

The Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 1 p.m. when the driver ran off the road and hit a barrier wall and then a tree.

The vehicle burst into flames and the driver was killed. That person’s name has not yet been released.

No other cars were involved.
