CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man died in a crash in northeast Charlotte Saturday night, police said.
The crash happened at about 11:25 p.m. on North Tryon Street near Kemp Street.
John Westerville Johnson, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
Authorities said Johnson was driving east on the Interstate 85 connector when he struck the center median and lost control of his car. The car then went through the North Tryon Street intersection, struck a pillar of the Light Rail bridge connector and flipped over.
According to investigators, speed was a factor in the crash. They also said Johnson was not wearing a seat belt.
No other details have been released.
