29-year-old driver killed after vehicle crashes into trees off York County highway

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A driver was killed in a wreck on Tuesday night in York County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.

The 2012 Nissan was gong north at about 7 p.m. on Lockhart Highway, which was about 3 miles south of Sharon when the vehicle crashed into several trees.

James Cooney, IV, 29, died at the scene.

Cooney was not wearing a seatbelt and had to be pulled out of the Nissan.
