CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Dozens of people have complained that a tax company with dozens of offices across the Charlotte area filed their taxes without their permission.
"I'm very upset. I'm mad," said Ashley Clark, one of the people who had a problem with the tax service.
Outraged customers said they have been coming to Instant Tax Service in Gastonia, Rock Hill and Charlotte for days, looking for tax returns.
"I was supposed to get mine Saturday. We came here Saturday, wasn't nobody here to give you anything," said customer Kiki Masson.
Some customers said they came in for an estimate and the company filed their taxes without their permission.
"(They did it) without my consent, without letting me know. They just pulled my W2s off line," Gwendolyn Parks said.
"They filled them out without my knowledge and didn't have my information correct," said Stephanie Peters, another irate customer.
Frank Owens, the Vice President of Marketing for Instant Tax Service, said customers' advanced refunds are loans and some refunds are delayed, because they were not bank approved.
"When the client comes in they sign documents saying, 'This is not my refund coming from the IRS, this is an advance from a loan,'" he said.
Owens said he was not aware of anyone's taxes being filed without their permission, but he promised to look into it.
Instant Tax Service said that those who were not approved for advanced refunds should get their normal federal tax return by the end of the month.
