South End road reopens after tractor-trailer takes down powerlines

CHARLOTTE — South Boulevard, near Magnolia Avenue in South End, reopened Wednesday morning.

The road was originally shut down around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The closure was due to a Publix big rig snagging some powerlines overhead in front of the grocery store and causing a utility pole to snap in half.

It eventually reopened after the powerlines were repaired.

Editor’s note: An NCDOT update erroneously stated the road reopened Tuesday night.
