GASTONIA, N.C. — Police are investigating after more than a dozen shots were fired into a Gastonia home, killing a 24-year-old man while he was spending time with his family.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. Tuesday on East Park Avenue.
Officers think someone in a car on the street shot into the house several times, hitting 24-year-old Gavin Plyler. Channel 9 crews counted at least 16 bullet holes all around the house.
Plyler was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, but he later died from his injuries.
Plyler’s mother, Robyn, told Channel 9 Gaston County bureau reporter Ken Lemon her family has no enemies. She said Gavin loved robotics and was working full time to save enough money to go back to college and become an engineer.
She said he had no enemies.
Robyn said she, Gavin and her 11-year-old son had just finished watching a movie when shots rang out. She realized the bullets were hitting her house when glass started to fly.
Robyn said Gavin told her he thought he had been hit in the heart.
“I want justice for my son. They could’ve killed my entire family,” Robyn Plyler said. “Nothing will change. He is gone. I need to know who did this will never do this to anyone else.”

She said they had neighborly disputes and disputes with people walking through the yard, but nothing that would warrant something like this.
No arrests have been made and authorities have not released any information about a possible suspect.
