While attorneys for Democrat Dan McCready filed paperwork pushing for a new election, attorneys for Republican Mark Harris released statements saying a new election is not the right call.
The State Board of Elections refused to certify Harris as the winner in the 9th Congressional District because of absentee irregularities.
A hearing with the State Board of Elections is set for next week will determine if there should be a new election in the district.
In the new paperwork filed Tuesday, McCready cited Channel 9's reporting about absentee ballot fraud and for the first time, requested a new election.
In his filing, one of his main points was he accused collectors of illegally harvesting and tampering with ballots, discarding absentee ballots, and colluding with elections officials to benefit Mark Harris.
Harris argued a new election is not the right call.
In his paperwork, he stated no public official abused their position, that the people under investigation have no close connection to him, and there are no facts to show Harris approved any wrongdoing.
