CHARLOTTE — Dilworth Neighborhood Grille is in the heart of where uptown Charlotte, Dilworth and Midtown intersect. The popular bar is now surrounded by stormwater construction.

“It’s horrible,” said Matt Wohlfarth, owner of Dilworth Neighborhood Grille.
Wohlfarth has been through it all, including COVID-19 restrictions, hiring challenges, supply chain issues and now construction headaches.
“It is a great year still,” he said. “It would be much better without this.”
The construction impacts the main entrance to the bar, and the parking deck across the street, so there is no clear path for people to cross the road.
So Wohlfarth has a proposal. He put a sign up along Morehead saying, “Free party for road crew if finished by 9/1/2022.”
“If you concentrate on how bad it is, it is just going to get worse,” he said. “You bring something that brings a little humor to it. Maybe a little hope. It might work.”
He understands why the construction is needed and that that kind of work is popping up all over town but if the sign provides a little motivation. That’s great for all involved.

“If it speeds it up by 15 days, 30 days, that would be worth it,” he said.
A spokesperson for Stormwater Services says the project is the Myrtle/Morehead Storm Drainage Project Phase 2.
The spokesperson says the project will help reduce street and structure flooding throughout the neighborhood by replacing aging infrastructure. For now, construction is anticipated to be completed in late 2022, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances.
