CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-based department store Belk has eliminated several positions, resulting in dozens of layoffs at their corporate office.

A spokesperson for the company told Channel 9 they announced a restructuring at the corporate office on Tyvola Road last week and it resulted in around 80 eliminated positions.
“These changes will help simplify corporate operations, more efficiently align teams and position Belk to continue to grow our omni business,” the company said in a statement.
Officials did not say what jobs were being eliminated, but said supporting their employees was their top priority.

The company said it is providing support to those impacted by the job eliminations by offering competitive severance packages and outplacement services.
“These changes have been difficult, but are necessary to provide the best customer experience possible,” the company said.
