CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More details around a substantial overhaul of a Plaza Midwood shopping center are coming to light.
Charlotte developer Crosland Southeast, with joint venture partner Nuveen Real Estate, is finalizing specifics around office and retail space, apartments and how to preserve two vintage buildings at Central Square, at Pecan and Central avenues. Crosland and Nuveen paid nearly $50 million for the 12-acre site earlier this year.
Bobby Speir, senior vice president of acquisitions at Crosland Southeast, said the plan is to develop between 385 and 400 apartments in a midrise building, wrapped around structured parking, on what’s currently a surface parking lot. A 150,000-square-foot office building, also with structured parking, will face Central Avenue, and be built where a portion of the strip center is today.
Part of the strip center will remain and be renovated so it fits with the new project and character of Plaza Midwood, Speir said.
