YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A York County detention officer has been arrested, accused of trying to smuggle drugs to inmates.
On Thursday, 26-year-old Heather McRorie was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detention staff was made aware of McRorie possibly trying to smuggle drugs into the detention center.
Authorities were able to arrest McRorie before she was able to pass any drugs to inmates, officials said.

Immediately after she was arrested, Sheriff Kevin Tolson terminated McRorie.
“We do not tolerate this type of conduct by any member of this agency”, the sheriff said. “We ensure our citizens that respect, integrity, character, accountability and professionalism are our core values and this incident has attempted to tarnish those values.”
McRorie was hired at the York County Sheriff’s Office in February 2020.
More charges may be pending.
