UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe Police Department say they’ve completed one of the largest narcotic seizures in the county, confiscating 27 pounds of the opioid painkiller fentanyl.
Authorities seized the large amount of fentanyl Wednesday morning during a search at a home on Concord Highway in the Unionville area.

Detectives also discovered 34 pounds of packages containing pressed pills, believed to be Roxicodone, which they said is commonly referred to as “Roxy 30s.”
There was a significant amount of cash at the home, too, authorities said.
“This investigation highlights the importance of sharing information and agencies working together to remove deadly drugs from our streets,” Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said in a news release. “With fatal overdoses on the rise, largely due to fentanyl, we must continue our efforts to get these deadly drugs out of our community.”
Investigators began the operation after a tip from a Monroe Police narcotics detective.
Two suspects were arrested and remain in the Union County Jail.
Aron Gerardo Prado Martinez, 33, and Luis Noe Prado Martinez, 25, each face two counts of trafficking in opium-heroin.
