Trio charged in connection with shooting death of teen at apartment complex

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested and charged three people after a teen was found shot to death at an east Charlotte apartment complex last week.

CMPD said 19-year-old Cortez Springs, 17-year-old Keniya Guyton and 18-year-old Tionte Morrison were charged in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Octavion McClellan.

Detectives responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 9:30 p.m. on July 25 at an apartment complex on Barrington Drive.

When they got there, officers said they found McClellan shot in the parking lot. He was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said another man who had been shot showed up at Atrium Health University City on the same night, but is expected to be OK.

Officers are working to determine if the cases are related.

All three suspects have been charged with murder and three counts of attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.
