Photo of suspect’s car released after man shot during road rage incident in Mooresville

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Deputies have released photographs of the vehicle they said was involved in a road rage shooting Sunday morning in Mooresville.

Officials told Channel 9 that Brian Ludwick was driving down Fern Hill Road just before noon with his wife and child in their Ford Explorer when they came upon a slow-moving car and passed it.

The driver of the slower car then immediately began tailgating the couple, according to deputies.

The tailgating continued onto Perth Road and then Judas Road. When both vehicles stopped at the intersection of Judas and Cornelius roads, authorities said the driver of the slower vehicle threw a drink cup at Ludwick’s Explorer.

Ludwick then followed the suspect, who pulled into a random driveway on Cornelius Road. When Ludwick, got out of his SUV and started walking toward the car, the other driver pulled out a handgun and shot him in the abdomen, deputies said.

The shooter then sped off onto Cornelius Road, turning onto Judas Road.

Sheriff Darren Campbell said Ludwick was taken to the hospital, where he was rushed into surgery. He is listed in serious but stable condition.

“As the victim exited his vehicle and approached the other guy’s car, that’s when the shot was fired, striking him in the abdomen,” Campbell said.

Initially, officers said the suspect was driving a Nissan Sentra-style car, but after receiving video of the vehicle, they determined he was driving a silver 2008 or newer model Kia Forte.

“The guy (who) was involved in the other part of the story, we have not located,” Campbell said. “We’d love to speak to him.”

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180.
