CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A man has been arrested after holding a woman and their 1-year-old child hostage for two days in Chester County, deputies said.
At around 1 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office got a call from the victim near Douglas Road in Great Falls. She told deputies the father of her child, Burton Mincey Jr., had attacked her with a hammer, threatened to kill her, and had held her and their child hostage since Friday.
She told authorities that Mincey had taken her phone so she couldn’t call police and stole her keys. The woman told detectives that she was fearful for her life and was sure Mincey was going to kill her. She said he even told her several times he was contemplating killing her.
Deputies went to the home and helped the woman and her baby escape to safety. Afterward, authorities went inside to search the home and arrested Mincey.
He was taken to the Chester County Detention Center and charged with domestic violence high and aggravated, and kidnapping. Investigators said he may face additional charges.
No other details have been released at this point.
