LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Channel 9 got an exclusive look at a Lincoln County drug bust on a busy highway and investigators believe the arrest is just the beginning.
Deputies pulled over a couple and found over an ounce of methamphetamine hidden in the car.
Michael Thomas, 34, was arrested and charged. A woman in the car was not charged.
The arrest came from a tip the couple were trafficking drugs.
The stop was made along U.S. Highway 321 near the High Shoals Road Exit, authorities said.
A K-9 led deputies to the drugs hidden in the dashboard.
An undercover deputy told Eyewitness News that the charge is more than just a misdemeanor.
"With this amount of weight, it's a trafficking charge and that means it is mandatory prison time if and when they are found guilty," the deputy said.
Thomas is charged with trafficking meth along with other charges.
Narcotics investigators said it was a significant bust for them because they are not only working to stop drug trafficking in the county, but any trafficking along highways through the county.
