Charlotte City Council District 6 race too close to call

CHARLOTTE — Incumbent Charlotte City Councilman Tariq Bokhari is declaring victory over Democrat Stephanie Hand.

Unofficial results give Bokhari a 352-vote lead over Hand in the District 6 race.

The race is outstanding the margin for a recount.

The board of elections says there is still a couple hundred outstanding mail votes and an unknown number of provisional ballots.

Bokhari says he feels good about where things stand.

Hand says she will push for all votes to be counted.

Hand led by about 1,300 votes after early voting totals.

Bokhari’s 352-vote lead was propelled by Election Day voters.

Democratic Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles defeated her opponent and will serve a fourth term as mayor.

The top four vote-getters for the Charlotte City Council at-large seats were Victoria Watlington, Dimple Ajmera, Smuggie Mithcell, and LaWana Slack-Mayfield.

In District 3, Tiawana Brown took the win.
