Deer shatters school bus windows in collision along rural Union County road

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A school bus collided with a deer along a rural Union County road Friday morning, according to school district officials.

The school bus, which was headed to Forest Hills High School and East Union Middle School, crashed into the deer around 7:45 a.m. on Medlin Road near Macedonia Church Road.

Union County school officials told Channel 9 there were 22 students on the bus and that a few students sustained minor injuries after the deer ran into the side of the bus and broke some windows.

Photos sent to Channel 9 from the school district showed windows on the bus that had been shattered by the impact.

A substitute bus was sent to the scene to get the students to their schools.

No other information has been released.
