Emergency crews were called just before 8 a.m. to the scene on Firelight Lane, near Albemarle Road.
Police said Keon Ferante Leach, 26, was found shot inside an apartment and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators told Channel 9 that the shooting was a domestic violence case and that a woman in the apartment who was involved was being interviewed by detectives.
Officers have not released any other details, only saying that the woman was cooperating and they were not looking for any other suspects.
Channel 9 watched as officers went in and out of the apartment on the second floor, with a child's basketball hoop outside. A neighbor told Eyewitness News that she believed a couple lives in that apartment with a young child.
Monday’s shooting death marked the city’s 10th homicide of the year, and half of them have been domestic violence-related.
