CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police stated Tuesday an arrest was made in a homicide that involved a crash during a chase early on Dec. 7. Investigators responded that night to two scenes in north Charlotte.

Almost a month later, Bruce Little, 23, was captured outside of Atlanta. CMPD homicide detectives drove to Fulton County to interview Little who is in custody and is awaiting extradition back to Mecklenburg County.

Police told Channel 9 it all started just after midnight on Swank Place, off of Northlake Center Parkway near the Northlake Mall.

Officers were called to a shooting at an apartment complex there and when they arrived, they found 29-year-old Devontae Springs dead inside a car. They also saw another vehicle speeding away from the scene.

CMPD chased that car to Oakdale Road and Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, about three miles away, where the driver crashed into a utility pole, bringing down power lines.

Inside that car, officers found a man and a woman and said the man had been shot several times. Both were taken to the hospital and police said the man suffered serious injuries.

Little was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, possession of firearm by convicted felon and discharging a firearm into a occupied dwelling.

Police have not shared any other details about the investigation.

“We have our homicide detectives and officers canvassing the area to try to determine what occurred,” said CMPD Maj. Martha Dozier.

Channel 9 crews could see detectives focusing on a car in the apartment complex parking lot that had what appeared to be bullet holes in the windows.

Mount Holly-Huntersville Road was blocked in both directions near Oakdale Road while police investigated. More than 3,000 Duke Energy customers in the area were without power for hours.
