Deadly crash shuts down portion of I-485 in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A portion of Interstate 485 in west Charlotte was shut down Monday morning after a deadly crash.

The multi-vehicle crash happened around 7 a.m. on the outer loop of I-485 near Moores Chapel Road.

Charlotte Fire Department said at least one person is dead and all lanes of the interstate were affected.

Channel 9 was at the scene and could see at least one of the cars involved appeared to have caught fire.

At one point, traffic was backed up about 8-miles to Oakdale Road and officers were moving drivers to Interstate 85 southbound to help improve congestion in the area.
