CHARLOTTE — A crash and car fire on Interstate 485 in south Charlotte left one person dead Wednesday morning, MEDIC confirmed.
The crash happened before 12:30 a.m., which was when Channel 9 arrived at the scene. The car involved had run off the ramp from the outer loop of I-485 to South Boulevard.
Troopers said the car, a Hyundai, was driving north on the exit ramp when it drove off the left side of the road, hit a ditch, and then hit a tree. The car continued rolling north when it hit a second tree and then caught fire, troopers said.
The driver of the Hyundai, 22-year-old Nicholas Poole, was thrown from the car. He died from his injuries.
A Channel 9 crew could see that the Hyundai was in pieces from the crash and fire.
The investigation shut down the ramp but it was back open two hours later.
