CMPD investigating deadly crash on busy Ballantyne road

CHARLOTTE — One person died in a crash in Charlotte’s Ballantyne neighborhood Monday afternoon, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded just after 11 a.m. to the crash at Johnston Road and Ballantyne Village Way. When they arrived, investigators said one person had died at the scene.

Channel 9 reached out to paramedics, who said they took someone who had a medical emergency to the hospital with a “life-threatening medical condition.”

Based on the information provided by both MEDIC and CMPD, it is unclear if there were two different people hurt in the crash. Channel 9 is asking for clarification.

Outbound Johnston Road was blocked while police investigated. The street was reopened by about 3 p.m.

CMPD said they will release more information as the investigation continues.
