De-icing pad debuts at Charlotte Douglas International Airport

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Douglas International Airport has a new de-icing pad thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The airport told Channel 9 that Friday may be the first time the 108,000-square-foot de-icing pad will be used in a major storm.

A spokesperson said the new pad will allow for more efficient aircraft movement on the airfield since the deicing operation will be consolidated near the primary departure runway.

This was part of the $43 million package that Senator Thom Tillis said he helped secure from the new law that he supported.
