Daycare worker who died from COVID-19 is NC’s first childcare center death

WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.C. — A staff member at a daycare facility that has a cluster of COVID-19 cases has died, according to our news partners, WTVD.

The station was reporting that the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that the staff member worked at Grace Filled Beginnings in Washington County.

That facility reportedly has 10 other current cases.

This would be the first fatality connected to a daycare center in North Carolina. The state has recorded a total of 122 COVID-19 cases linked to childcare centers. Of those cases, 63 were children at the centers, according to WTVD.

The NCDHHS reports that 17 centers have been identified as having COVID-19 clusters (five or more confirmed COVID-19 cases).
