DAVIDSON, N.C. — There is officially a new president at Davidson College.
The school held an inauguration ceremony for Douglas A. Hicks on Friday. Hick says he is committed to advancing the unique mission of Davidson and advocating for the importance of a liberal arts education.

“We cannot properly envision the future unless we adequately and truthfully examine where we’ve come from,” Hicks said in his speech. “Tradition is about inheriting something important and passing it forward from one generation to the next.”
Before arriving at Davidson, Hicks served as the dean at the Oxford College of Emory University. He is the school’s 19th president. The ceremony was a full-circle moment for Hicks, who graduated from Davidson in 1990.
