CHARLOTTE — On Monday, Charlotte City Council unanimously approved rezoning for the Charlotte Pipe project outside Bank of America Stadium.

The 55-acre site has been mentioned as a possible candidate for a new home for the Carolina Panthers one day. If approved, a stadium would be one of the permitted uses for the site.
Plans for the site have not yet been disclosed and the land remains for sale. Charlotte Pipe plans to move to Stanly County.
Panthers owner David Tepper buys prime land near Bank of America Stadium
Nearly five acres of land near Bank of America Stadium now belongs to Carolina Panthers’ owner David Tepper.
Real estate records show Tepper’s LLC, GT Real Estate Holdings, purchased 4.6 acres at West Morehead and McNinch Streets for more than $15 million. The land is within walking distance of Bank of America Stadium.
A spokesperson for Tepper Sports and Entertainment confirmed the purchase but declined further comment. The land was owned by Blackmon Family LLC.

A source familiar with the deal told Channel 9 reporter Joe Bruno there are no immediate plans for the site.
Tepper has spoken publicly about his goal to create an entertainment district in uptown.
