CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is one of the most expensive airports in the U.S. when buying a plane ticket.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics looked at round-trip ticket costs, including taxes and fees.
It found the average ticket during the third quarter of 2018 in Charlotte cost $418.
That trails Dulles International Airport in Washington by just $5.
The data doesn't include baggage fees.
American Airlines, which has a hub at the Charlotte airport, pocketed nearly $912 million in the first three quarters of 2018.

Ticket costs dove a little when Spirit Airlines announced flights out of Charlotte, which begin in June.
Spirit Airlines flights will go to four cities, including Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
While tickets are roughly $418 on average, the price only went up a few cents from 2017.
