KEY WEST — You may know Dale Earnhardt Jr. from his days of being one of NASCAR’s most popular drivers or more recently as a sports commentator for NBC Sports, but did you know the Mooresville native is also into restoring historic houses in Key West, Florida?

In 2018, Earnhardt and his interior designer wife, Amy, got into the creative spirit in Key West finding old conch houses to restore. The first house they restored was recorded in a four-part reality TV series for DIY Network called “Renovation Realities: Dale Jr. & Amy.” The house sold days after being finished.
Now, their second house has been completed and has recently been put on the market.
Built in 1863 during the Civil War, the Earnhardts’ latest project is a hat tip to the island’s pirate days. The 3,306-square-foot, five-bedroom home features pirate and nautical themes throughout it -- rope-wrapped columns, lots of wood, a ship’s wheel on the side of the large wrap-around bar in the kitchen and parrots sitting up in the rafters. In fact, one room has a secret floor hatch that can be lifted to spy on the mates below.
The house is listed for $3.7 million and listed with Bob and Debbie Cardenas of Ocean Sotheby’s International Real Estate.
