KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Improved hiking trails at Crowders Mountain are on the way.
North Carolina State Parks announced this week that $2 million will be granted to Crowders Mountain in an effort to improve hiking trails.
Over the last year, more than 750,000 people visited Crowders Mountain State Park. A spokesperson from the park said the funds would be used to repair and improve hiking trails that were heavily used by visitors.
Crowders Mountain is not the only state park in North Carolina to receive improvement funding. In a meeting on Jan. 9, the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority approved a $13.7 million grant that will fund 11 state park improvement projects.
Other state park improvement projects include a disc golf course at Fall Lake, maintenance facility renovations at Carolina Beach, a new restroom at Mount Jefferson, a family campground renovation at Hanging Rock, and improvements to shower houses at Jordan Lake.
N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary D. Reid Wilson said he is thankful for not only the General Assembly but also Governor Cooper for the approval of the funding.
“These much-needed park improvement projects will bring several of our state park facilities at some of our most visited parks up to modern standards,” said Wilson. “We remain grateful to the General Assembly and Governor Roy Cooper for providing significantly increased investments in the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund over the last two years, a clear recognition of the importance of our state parks to the people and economy of North Carolina.”
