MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE, N.C. — The body of a swimmer who went missing on Mountain Island Lake Wednesday was found Friday morning, police said.
The swimmer disappeared near Latta Nature Preserve Wednesday shortly after 3 p.m. The closest access point from the caller was the North Kayak Access.
Chopper 9 flew over a cove near Sample Road Wednesday afternoon where boats from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Huntersville Fire Department were searching the water.
The search was discontinued at nightfall due to the darkness before search teams returned Thursday morning.
On Friday, CMPD said officers and Huntersville Fire crews had found the victim’s body that morning about half a mile from where he went missing.
“Our prayers are with his family and friends,” Huntersville Fire said.
