CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — The Carolina Beach Police and the Fire Department have been searching for a missing swimmer since Saturday night at Carolina Beach, Channel 9's partners WWAY/ABC3 reported.

Emergency crews responded to a call of a swimmer in distress just before 8 p.m. at Harper Avenue.

Water conditions are rough as Tropical Depression Bonnie moves off the East Coast.

The swimmer, James Cameron, 21, from Graham, stands 5 foot 10 inches and weighs 160 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a red, white and blue bathing suit.

Crews, including the U.S. Coast Guard, are searching from land, air and water, police said.
