CHARLOTTE — A family was displaced after a large fire tore through a two-story home in northwest Charlotte on Tuesday morning.

A significant amount of damage was done to the second floor, the garage, and the car parked in the driveway at the two-story home on Valley Ridge Road.

The fire woke up residents in the neighborhood.

“I woke up to pounding on the door and we were a little confused as to what was going on,” neighbor Khayri Rivera said.

Rivera said it was her neighbor at her door, begging for help, because their house had gone up in flames.

“I was just shocked. I didn’t know how to react,” Rivera said. “It was just a car on fire and then the house was on fire.

Rivera made the 911 call after 4:30 a.m.

While crews were on the way, Rivera was worried the fire would spread to her home.

“It was scary because it looked like it was blowing over to our house, and I didn’t want the same thing to happen,” Rivera said.

Rashad McClure, who lives a couple houses down, told Channel 9 that two adults and a child live at the home.

“Prayers for his daughter, his family, his wife – all of them,” McClure said. “He got so much family stuff in there that he done lost.”

One of the family members was taken to the hospital for an unknown reason. Red Cross is assisting the family.

The fire has been deemed accidental due to an electrical issue in the garage. A total of $110,000 in damage was done.
