CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in the University City area on Monday morning that forced residents to be evacuated.
Crews responded to Wexford Meadows Lane just after 5 a.m., according to Charlotte Fire. Smoke was showing upon arrival, officials said.

The fire was controlled in 10 minutes, and one occupant was evaluated on scene.
Channel 9′s Almiya White could see a large fire response at the scene and learned 20 people were evacuated.
One of the residents told White that the fire woke him up from his sleep.
“I only had time to grab a hoodie or something,” Chris Ratliff said.
The fire is under investigation.
