Crews respond to 2-alarm fire at paper recycling business near Uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a two-alarm “large debris” fire at about 3 p.m. Wednesday at International Paper, a paper-recycling business, on East 28th Street near North Tryon Street just outside Uptown Charlotte.

Channel 9′s Tower Cam spotted the fire from the TV station’s studios.

Crews got to the scene where a large pile of debris was engulfed in flames.

“Despite challenging conditions with thick smoke filling the area, Charlotte Fire crews worked swiftly and decisively to contain the fire’s spread,” fire officials said in a news release.

The fire was under control by 4:35 p.m.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation.
