CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is beginning to prepare for a winter storm that will bring snow to Charlotte Friday night into Saturday.

Crews will begin to treat the interstates and primary roads with salt and brine right after the morning rush hour Thursday.

In Caldwell County, workers took in a shipment of 4,000 gallons of brine.

As of Wednesday, there is no threat for ice, which makes it easier to treat the roads.

NCDOT will be monitoring the weather forecast closely and if it changes, they will be ready to modify and change the plans as the forecast changes.

"We'll be monitoring the forecast and we'll start getting our equipment ready to deploy and respond to any areas that become troublesome," NCDOT’s Jen Thompson said.

After their initial treatment Thursday, crews will add more brine as necessary.
