MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — One person and multiple pets died in a fire at a home in Mint Hill Monday morning.
Crews were called to Edwards Place in the Bainbridge subdivision shortly after 7 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they said the left side of the home was fully engulfed.
The home was heavily damaged and part of the roof had collapsed, according to police.
Firefighters from Mint Hill, Matthews and Robinson responded to the blaze.
Crews had to wait for the house to cool down before going in to search the home and assess the damage.
Retired firefighter Mark Ligon lives nearby and told Channel 9 crews arrived within minutes with help from him and other residents who picked up their phones.
“Call 911 as fast as you can, because these are trained professionals,” he said. “They know what they’re doing. The faster they can get here, the faster they can mitigate the situation.”
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the person who died.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
