CHARLOTTE — A portion of Interstate 485 in south Charlotte was temporarily closed Tuesday afternoon because of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.
The wreck happened around 12:30 p.m. and firefighters said the outer loop of I-485 was shut down at Providence Road.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene and could see several ambulances and fire trucks, with emergency crews surrounding the motorcyclist involved in the crash.
MEDIC said that person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area but lanes started reopening around 2:30 p.m. All lanes were reopened by 5:15 p.m.
There was no immediate word on what caused the crash, which will be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
