CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A major road in northeast Charlotte was blocked for hours Friday morning after police said a drunk driver crashed into a utility pole, bringing down power lines.
Officials said the wreck happened just before 2 a.m. on University City Boulevard at East Mallard Creek Church Road.
Police said the car, which had four people inside, crashed into a power pole. Three of the people in the car were taken to the hospital, but none suffered serious injuries.
Police have charged the driver with DWI. That person’s name has not been released.
All lanes of University City Boulevard were closed until Duke Energy and the Department of Transportation could make repairs to the downed pole, lines and traffic signal.
Officials reopened the road just before 10 a.m.
