CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A portion of Interstate-40 was closed Thursday morning near the Iredell County/Catawba County line after a flatbed tractor-trailer and an RV collided, according to Highway Patrol.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene of the crash around 11 a.m. Fire trucks were seen blocking the eastbound lanes as crews worked to remove the RV.
The crash had created about a 4-mile-long traffic backup.

The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. The eastbound lanes of I-40 near Oxford School Road (Exit 138) were reopened around 12:30 p.m.
Troopers have not said what led up to the crash, but told Channel 9 the driver of the RV was trapped and had to be removed from the vehicle before being flown to the hospital with serious injuries.
