CHARLOTTE — After conducting hours of interviews on Saturday, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted Tuesday on the replacement for Ella Scarborough’s seat.
Dr. Wilhelmenia Rembert was appointed by the BOCC for the temporary at-large county commissioner seat out of the finalists who were interviewed.
Rembert is a former at-large county commissioner. She served as vice-chair for one term from 2004 to 2006 and was also a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board.
In February, the Board of Commissioners voted to continue paying Scarborough while she is on medical leave. The commissioner has not served since October.
Four finalists were interviewed to fill her spot during Saturday’s special meeting including Rembert, former Rep. Beverly Earle, former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board member Mary McCray and Charlotte zoning committee member Sam Spencer.
The new commissioner would be sworn in during a ceremony on Mar. 22, when the term begins, and would serve through Dec. 5.
