NORTH CAROLINA — Recent whispers of a big name in apparel becoming a new tenant at one of the most recognizable buildings in Chapel Hill may become reality.
Sources tell the Triangle Business Journal that Nike Inc. may be taking over office space in the iconic Parkline building at 1830 Fordham Blvd., along U.S. highways 15 and 501. The $37 billion corporation based outside Portland, Oregon, could share the rhomboid-shaped building with companies including UNC Health, which leased over 50,000 square feet in 2020.
Sources said it is not clear at what stage of the process the deal currently stands. Nike did not return requests for comment.
Such a move would add to a list of global companies tapping North Carolina so far in 2021. Already, tech giants Apple and Google have announced plans for the Triangle region, shaking up the jobs, housing and office space markets in the process.
