CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A corrections officer was charged after she let an inmate into a restricted area at the Chesterfield County Detention Center, the sheriff said.

CO Lakeya Bullock, 26, let the inmate into the master control area where she was not working on Tuesday. Only officers are allowed in master control, the sheriff said.

Bullock was arrested the day after and charged with misconduct in office and is awaiting a bond hearing.

She has been terminated from her position, as well, the sheriff said.

“We hold officers to a higher standard, and this officer failed to meet those standards,” sheriff Cambo Streater said in a news release.
