CORNELIUS, N.C. — A Cornelius restaurant had to pay more than $12,000 to the Department of Labor because it allowed 15-year-old children to work more hours than what is legal.

Cowboy Steak Chicken Ribs allowed minors to work past 7 p.m. on school nights, more than three hours on a school day and more than eight hours on nonschool days, officials said.
Those practices violate are against the Fair Labor Standards Act.
