CORNELIUS, N.C. — Cornelius police found a woman, about 50 years old, dead inside the Microtel Inn off Interstate 77 just after midnight Tuesday.
Eyewitness News anchor Liz Foster asked hotel staff who found the victim, what floor and if they turned over any surveillance video to police. The woman at the front desk didn't even know about the investigation.
"Yeah, that's terrible," Kent Orr said.
Orr was staying on the third floor of hotel for work and heard a commotion around 11 p.m. Monday that woke him up.
"I heard somebody hollering, you know, and I basically woke up and thought, 'Well, somebody's drunk or something,'" Orr told Channel 9.
He said he saw a lot of police activity Tuesday morning.
Police are not releasing much information about how the woman died or if it's a homicide investigation. Cornelius police haven't investigated a homicide since 2012.
"We stay here a lot, and you hardly ever have any problem at all, but it's surprising something happened, maybe," Orr said.
Police aren't releasing the woman's name until her family has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
Cornelius police said they're waiting on autopsy results.
