MORGANTON, N.C. — A Gastonia man serving a 28-year sentence for a double murder was sentenced to an additional seven to nine years for stabbing a prison guard.
Last year, Jose Lopez-Rios, 21, stabbed a corrections officer in Morganton four times with a nearly seven-inch shank. He tried to assault another officer but was stopped.
The injured officer spent five days in a hospital.
In 2016, Lopez-Rios killed Derreck Brice and his cousin Lashea Coleman, who had cerebral palsy.
