Control of local distillery shifts amid legal battle

Cabarrus County — A long and winding legal battle over Southern Grace Distilleries in Cabarrus County has entered a new phase — with the original owner of the former prison site where the distillery’s operations are located now in control of the business.

The newest action — a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing on Nov. 8 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of North Carolina — is the latest step in the court system for the resolution of a range of legal entanglements.

The outcome of that action, though, will not change the operational future of Southern Grace.
